Kentucky Hunting Methods Exemption: Vehicle Permit

Kentucky lets a hunter whose disability requires it hunt from an ATV or other vehicle on private property with a hunting methods exemption. A licensed physician attests on the form why the hunter must hunt from a vehicle and whether the disability is temporary or permanent, with the length of time, and the signed form then serves as the hunter's permit.

Who completes it

The hunter fills in name, contact details and an ID number and signs the terms. A licensed physician describes the disability, marks it temporary or permanent with the length of time, and signs with printed name and business address.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
The form is not sent to KDFWR: once completed and signed it is the permit and must be carried on the hunter's person.

Good to know

  • The vehicle may be used only for transportation and as a shooting platform; the permit does not authorize off-road use, and the vehicle cannot be used to drive or flush game.
  • For a temporary disability, the hunter returns to conventional hunting methods when the stated period ends, so the physician must give a length of time.
  • KDFWR keeps no copy, and the hunter still needs the appropriate Kentucky hunting licenses and tags.
  • The vehicle exemption covers private property; vehicle access on designated wildlife management areas requires the separate Mobility Impaired Access Permit.

How this list is checked

A form is listed only after its name and number were confirmed on the issuing agency’s or insurer’s own website, or in the form itself. Each entry links to that source. The list was last checked in October 2026. Forms and their requirements change without notice, so check the official page for the current version before you complete one.

Frequently asked questions

What does the physician write on Kentucky's vehicle hunting exemption?

The physician attests that the named hunter must hunt from an ATV or other vehicle because of a described disability, marks whether it is temporary or permanent, and states the length of time. The signature block asks for the physician's printed name and business address.

Does the Kentucky vehicle permit allow hunting from a vehicle on public land?

KDFWR describes the vehicle permit as allowing hunting from a vehicle on private property, such as using it as a hunting platform. Vehicle access on designated tracts of wildlife management areas is covered by the separate Mobility Impaired Access Permit, which needs a Kentucky-licensed physician's attestation.

Does the hunter mail the vehicle exemption to KDFWR?

No. The form tells the hunter not to return it. Once completed and signed by the physician and the hunter, it is the Hunting Methods Exemption Permit, and the hunter must carry it, along with the required licenses and tags, while hunting.
