North Dakota Disability Crossbow Permit

North Dakota Game and Fish lets a person who is blind, paraplegic or has lost the use of one or both arms take game or nongame fish with a crossbow in place of a compound, long or recurve bow. There is no paper form to download: the permit is requested online, and eligibility must be confirmed by a licensed or certified clinician.

Who completes it

The hunter or angler starts the application in their Game and Fish My Account. Confirmation of eligibility must come from a licensed physician, certified nurse practitioner, certified physician assistant or licensed chiropractor, so ask the patient what the online application requests from you.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
The applicant logs in to My Account on the Game and Fish website with name and date of birth and applies in the specialty permit section. Game and Fish publishes no PDF version of this permit application.
Who pays
Game and Fish's disabled-services page lists no fee for the crossbow permit or for the clinician's confirmation.

Good to know

  • Only three conditions qualify: blindness, paraplegia, or loss of use of one or both arms. Other impairments that make drawing a bow difficult are not listed.
  • The permit replaces the bow for taking game or nongame fish; the holder still needs a current North Dakota fishing and/or hunting license.
  • Chiropractors may confirm eligibility for this permit, along with physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Hunters who cannot walk for hunting may also need North Dakota's separate permit to shoot from a stationary motor vehicle, which uses the same online specialty permit section.

How this list is checked

The list was last checked in October 2026. Forms and their requirements change without notice, so check the official page for the current version before you complete one.
