Nevada NDOW Archery Disability Permit Application

Under NAC 503.1465, the Nevada Department of Wildlife issues an archery disability permit that lets a hunter use a crossbow, or a bow with a mechanical device that anchors a nocked arrow at full or partial draw, in archery-only hunts. A licensed physician certifies that the hunter's disability prevents manually drawing and holding a legal bow at full draw. The permit lasts one year.

Who completes it

The hunter completes and signs the applicant section on page 1. A licensed physician completes page 2 with full name, title, mailing address, license number and state, and signs that they examined the applicant and the disability meets the permit requirements.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
The completed application is mailed to the NDOW License Office (Special Licenses and Permits) in Reno; allow up to 10 days for processing. Incomplete applications are returned with no action taken.
Who pays
The application asks for no payment, and no fee is set for the physician's certification.

Good to know

  • Disability here means being unable to manually draw and hold at full draw a bow that meets NAC 503.144(2), which requires a peak draw weight of at least 40 pounds.
  • Physicians not licensed in Nevada must send a photocopy of their medical license or have their signature notarized on the form.
  • The permit expires one year after issue and must be carried with a valid hunting license and shown to a law enforcement officer on request.
  • Both the applicant and the physician certify that the information is true; a false statement to obtain the permit is a misdemeanor.

How this list is checked

A form is listed only after its name and number were confirmed on the issuing agency’s or insurer’s own website, or in the form itself. Each entry links to that source. Frequently asked questions

Can an out-of-state physician sign Nevada's archery disability permit?

Yes, with an extra step. Physicians not licensed in Nevada must either send a photocopy of their medical license with the application or have their signature notarized in the notary block on page 2. The physician also lists their license number and issuing state.

How long is a Nevada archery disability permit valid?

One year. NAC 503.1465, printed on page 3 of the application, says the permit expires one year after the date it was issued, so the hunter needs a new application and physician certification to continue using a crossbow or draw-lock device in archery hunts.
