California DFW 1460: Mobility Impaired Vehicle License

California hunters with a permanent disability that makes them nonambulatory or substantially impairs their mobility can hunt from a motor vehicle with this license, under CCR Title 14, Section 251. A licensed physician certifies on DFW 1460 that the hunter relies on a wheelchair, crutches, prosthesis or similar device to be mobile, and CDFW's License and Revenue Branch issues the license.

Who completes it

The hunter completes the applicant section, checks the type of permanent disability and signs. A licensed physician completes the physician section with license number, describes the qualifying permanent disability and signs under penalty of perjury.

Frequently asked questions

Who qualifies for California's Mobility Impaired Disabled Persons Motor Vehicle License?

A hunter certified by a licensed physician as having a permanent physical disability who is nonambulatory, meaning permanently reliant on a wheelchair or similar device, or whose mobility is substantially impaired, meaning virtually unable to move on foot without crutches, canes, prosthetic appliances or similar devices, as defined in CCR Title 14, Section 251.

Can an out-of-state physician sign DFW 1460?

The physician certifies being licensed to practice in the state where the applicant resides, so the license has to match the hunter's state of residence. The physician also enters a license number and describes the qualifying permanent disability, and signs under penalty of perjury under California law.

How long does CDFW take to process the application?

CDFW asks applicants to allow 15 business days after mailing the application to the License and Revenue Branch. Incomplete or illegible applications may delay processing, so the physician section should be fully completed, including the license number and disability description.
