Louisiana Elderly Protective Services Online Report

Louisiana's Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs runs Elderly Protective Services (EPS), which investigates abuse, neglect, exploitation and extortion of adults aged 60 and older. Its online report form is meant for situations that do not need to be investigated right away. A clinician can use it for a non-urgent concern about an older patient; EPS then assesses the person's risk of harm and arranges protective services where needed.

Who completes it

Any reporter, including a health care professional, completes the whole online form.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
Submit the form online from GOEA's Elderly Protective Services page; online reports can take more than 48 hours to process because of high volume. Urgent reports go to the 24/7 EPS hotline, and life-threatening situations to 911.
Who pays
GOEA lists no fee or payment for EPS reports.

Good to know

  • EPS covers people 60 and older; adults aged 18 to 59 are referred to Louisiana's Adult Protective Services, which has its own phone line.
  • Because online reports may take over 48 hours to process, use the 24/7 hotline for anything that should be investigated right away.
  • GOEA's Elderly Protective Services page cites La. R.S. 14:403.2 and La. R.S. 15:1501 to 1511 as the legal basis for EPS protections.
  • The EPS phone lines offer TTY access through Louisiana Relay and a Spanish-language line for reporters who need them.
