FAA ADHD Fast Track Evaluation Report Requirements

Pilots and air traffic control specialists with a history of ADHD or ADHD medication can be evaluated on the FAA's fast track, which relies on a doctoral-level psychologist or neuropsychologist. This one-page FAA specification lists what the evaluation report must contain, from the records reviewed and clinical interview to an explicit diagnostic statement, within 90 days of the AME exam.

Who completes it

A doctoral-level (PhD or PsyD) licensed psychologist or neuropsychologist with ADHD evaluation experience writes the report and completes the Fast Track FAA ADHD Summary. The individual gathers the ADHD Document Checklist records and writes a personal statement.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
The individual brings the full report, the completed FAA ADHD Summary and copies of all records reviewed to the AME, and all documents are uploaded to the FAA within 14 days.

Good to know

  • Records review and evaluation can be virtual, but the evaluation must be face to face on screen, not audio only, and the report states which format was used.
  • The diagnostic statement must say whether DSM criteria are met, list past and present diagnoses with remission status, and address instability or ADHD medication in the last four years.
  • Anyone with ADHD medication or symptoms in the past four years, or any other psychiatric history, goes to the standard track instead.
  • The FAA wants the full report, not the after-visit summary. If a checklist document cannot be obtained, the report explains why and whether that is a concern.

Frequently asked questions

Who can write the FAA ADHD fast track report?

A doctoral-level (PhD or PsyD) licensed psychologist or neuropsychologist with training and experience in evaluating ADHD. The evaluator writes a detailed report covering every item in the FAA's fast track requirements and also completes the Fast Track FAA ADHD Summary, which the AME uses.

Can the FAA ADHD fast track evaluation be done by telehealth?

Partly. The records review and evaluation can be done virtually, but the evaluation must be face to face on screen, not audio only, and the report must document whether it was virtual or in person. It must be completed within 90 days of the AME exam.

Can an AME issue a medical certificate after the ADHD fast track?

For pilots, the FAA ADHD Summary may allow the AME to issue; if not, the exam is deferred to the FAA. Exams for air traffic control specialists are always deferred. Partial or incomplete packages are not reviewed and cause delays.
