King County Metro Access: Healthcare Co-Signature

King County Metro's Access Transportation is the ADA paratransit service for people whose disability prevents them from riding regular buses some or all of the time. Its eligibility application, started online, is not complete until a healthcare professional co-signs it. The applicant enters the professional's email, and the professional approves the application electronically.

Who completes it

The applicant, or an authorized advocate, completes the application with medical condition details, frequently traveled addresses and the professional's email. The applicant's healthcare professional reviews and co-signs it, usually by electronic approval inside the online application.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
The co-signature is given through King County Metro's online Access application on the Spare Labs platform; applicants can instead request an emailed PDF or a mailed paper version, answered in English.

Good to know

  • After the professional's verification, applicants attend an evaluation at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle; the evaluation and round-trip transportation to it are free.
  • Access decides within 21 calendar days of receiving all the information it needs; outcomes are eligible, conditionally eligible or ineligible.
  • Riders must be at least 6 years old, and appeals of an eligibility decision must be filed within 60 days.
  • Agencies with a joint eligibility agreement honor each other's decisions; people living outside King County apply with their own county or city.

Frequently asked questions

How does a healthcare professional co-sign a King County Access application?

The applicant enters the professional's email address in the online application, and the professional receives a request to approve it electronically. King County Metro states that applications must be co-signed by a healthcare professional to be considered complete, so eligibility review does not move forward until that approval is in.

Is the King County Access application available on paper?

Yes. After checking eligibility online, applicants can choose to finish online, have a PDF emailed to them, or have a paper version mailed. The application is in English and responses must be submitted in English, although a translation tool is available for certain languages.

What happens after the healthcare professional co-signs?

The applicant can log in to track status, which shows professional verification, evaluation scheduling and the final decision. An in-person evaluation at Harborview Medical Center follows, and Access decides within 21 calendar days of having all the information it needs.
