Maine Katahdin Online Child Abuse Report

Maine's Office of Child and Family Services lets certain mandated reporters file non-emergency reports of suspected child abuse or neglect online through the Katahdin Child Welfare System instead of calling Child Welfare Intake. Medical professionals and hospital staff are among those eligible, so a clinician with a concern that is not urgent can submit it without waiting on the phone line.

Who completes it

The mandated reporter completes the whole online report. Only medical professionals, hospital staff, school personnel and law enforcement personnel may use it; all other reporters call intake.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
Submit through the Katahdin mandated reporter portal for non-emergency concerns. Emergencies and anything urgent go to the OCFS Child Welfare Intake line, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Who pays
OCFS lists no fee; reporting is a legal obligation for mandated reporters.

Good to know

  • Mandated reporters must report when acting in a professional capacity and they know or suspect a child has been or is likely to be abused or neglected, or a suspicious child death occurred.
  • OCFS offers self-paced online mandated reporter training; complete it in one browser session, since closing the browser partway means starting over.
  • Trainers certified in Maine before June 2026 must recertify because of significant curriculum changes, and OCFS lists facilitated group training at no cost.
  • OCFS notes that you don't have to report a family to support a family, and points to Help ME Grow, Be There for ME and Maine Prevention Councils.

Is there a written follow-up form for Maine child abuse reports?
