Missouri Child Abuse Online Report (Mandated)

Missouri's Children's Division lets mandated reporters submit suspected child abuse or neglect through an online reporting system instead of the 24-hour hotline, and encourages them to do so when possible to keep the hotline open for the public. Physicians are among the occupations required to report under RSMo 210.115, and Missouri law requires mandated reporters to identify themselves when reporting.

Who completes it

The mandated reporter completes the report after logging in and must identify themselves. Members of the public call the hotline instead.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
Set up an account ahead of time using the DSS mandated reporter guide, log in with your MOLogin username and password, and follow the prompts. In an emergency, call 911 first and then make the report.
Who pays
The Children's Division lists no fee for reporting.

Good to know

  • Since August 28, 2004, Missouri law has required all mandated reporters to identify themselves when making a report.
  • Have the child's name, the parents' names, the alleged abuser's name, where the child can be located and a description of the concerns ready.
  • When unsure, DSS advises erring on the side of over-reporting, since the Children's Division can often provide services that help families.
  • Mandated reporter training is available at protectmokids.com, and DSS posts mandated reporter FAQs and a Guidelines for Mandated Reporters document.

Frequently asked questions

Do Missouri mandated reporters need an account to report online?

Yes. DSS asks mandated reporters to set up an account ahead of time using its mandated reporter guide, then log in to the Online System for Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting with a MOLogin username and password and answer the prompts. DSS suggests bookmarking the login page.

Can a Missouri mandated reporter stay anonymous?

No. Missouri law has required mandated reporters to identify themselves since August 28, 2004. Members of the public can remain anonymous, though DSS encourages them to give contact information so the Children's Division can ask for more information and complete a more thorough investigation.
