Florida Abuse Hotline Online Report (Reporter Portal)

Florida's Department of Children and Families lets reporters submit abuse reports to the Florida Abuse Hotline online through its Mandated Reporter Portal. It covers abuse, abandonment or neglect of a child and abuse, neglect or exploitation of a vulnerable adult. A clinician can use it when no one is in immediate danger and there is time to gather the details first.

Who completes it

The reporter, whether a mandated professional such as a physician or nurse or any other person, completes the whole online report.

Submitting and payment

How to submit it
Submit the report online through the DCF portal linked from the Hotline's How to Report Abuse page. If a child or vulnerable adult is in immediate danger, call 911 and then the Hotline by phone instead.
Who pays
DCF lists no fee or payment for reporting to the Hotline.

Good to know

  • DCF states that web reporting should not be used for situations requiring immediate attention; those go to 911 first and then the Hotline's toll-free line.
  • Be ready to describe who was involved, what occurred, when and where, why it happened, the extent of any injuries and what the victim said.
  • DCF also accepts written reports by fax on its Fax Transmittal Form, which requires mandatory reporters to give their name and contact details.
  • The Hotline also takes reports by telephone, including through TTY, for reporters who prefer to speak with someone.

Frequently asked questions

When should I not use Florida's online abuse report?

When the situation requires immediate attention. DCF states that web reporting is not for those cases: if a child or vulnerable adult is in immediate danger, call 911 first and then the Florida Abuse Hotline's toll-free number. Use the online portal when there is no imminent risk and you have gathered the information in advance.

Does the Florida online portal cover vulnerable adults as well as children?

Yes. The Florida Abuse Hotline takes reports of child abuse, abandonment and neglect and of abuse, neglect and exploitation of vulnerable adults, and the online portal accepts both. The fax transmittal form also covers both, with an extra question about an adult victim's disability and ability to self-protect.
